Chestnuts toasting in an open oven

Holiday spirit has never been higher than it is at Tippie… or Teepee… or The Cat House: whatever it is we’re calling it these days. Yesterday the family went up the street to the local Perry District Christmas tree lot and purchased a fragrant, six-foot-tall, wish-you-could-drink-it-with-tonic, grand fir christmas tree. Doobie was kind enough to save ornaments over the years, so along with strings of popcorn and cranberries, we have a lot of ornaments that say “Tyler” on our family tree. Aden is working on making a pentagonal star for the top to celebrate the house’s witchcraft. Also many thanks to everyone who spent the afternoon, evening, or morning cutting out snowflakes in our living room. They hang from our ceiling with tinsel: it’s quite the Winter Wonderland.
I mean, if you’re going to live somewhere where it snows you might as well embrace it as an opportunity to have holiday cheer. Irish coffees, mulled wine, and hot toddies really help.
Speaking of, we’d like to invite all of our extended family to a fancy Christmas party at our house. If you will be in the state of Washington and/or have means to get to Spokane, please join us in your finest attire on Saturday, December 19th for a very merry party. It will involve all the favorite seasonal beverages and a lot of mug nug love, helped by mistletoe. Not to be too formal about it, but we’re also hoping to pull Secret Santa together this year, so if you could RSVP by responding to this post, that would be great. We’ll update you on the plan of action for this Secret Santa choosing.
Miss you,
Amanda

The Trip

So as you all should know, Tippity and I went to South Carolina this past week to visit Sam and watch him graduate from the Navy.
We got a lot of pictures, so I was going to send some home, but got a little more creative with it and ended up making what follows. Keep in mind this was made in three different sessions, each one indicative of a different mood that I was in. I believe this is most apparent in the second half. I have no fucking idea why I made so many Lord of the Rings references, but by now you all should have come to expect such things from me. Anyhow, enjoy!

“will have meds”
November 23, 2009 · 2 Comments
I received a text from my dad as i arrived at SeaTac to catch my flight to CA; “Might only be me picking you up. Call when you land. Will have meds.”
So began a pretty damn good week in So.CAL with the parents. Upon arrival my dad dispensed said “meds” and treated me to a heavenly In-N-Out burger. During the days both parents are working and i had no car so i sat in the sun most of the day, read the paper, used the internet, made amazing breakfasts, etc…. I also had unlimited access to two amazing varieties of “meds” the entire time i was there. My parents house is stuffed with food; its unreal. Every vegetable, fruit, meat and grain you could imagine. Plus they have a gas stove and an amazing bar-b-q. I did a lot of cooking. Every night just after my mom would go to sleep my dad and i would “walk the dog” using our “meds” – a highlight of each day which usually included meaningful conversations. Wednesday Smash came down to pick me up and we went up to her neck of the woods for grandparents dinner and a family friends furniture stores open house – complete with a camel, and free wine. Thursday Smash’s dad took us to the desert to ride dirt-bikes, motorcycles and quads. We also shot several guns – there are some great photos. It was fucking awesome and smash has some road rash to prove it. I want a motorcycle. Thursday night was a fancy dinner at a fancy french restaurant with all smash’s family. It started very awkwardly when there was no chair or table setting for me – it progressed much better. My dad took off work friday so naturally we spent most of the day “walking the dog” but we also mixed in cooking amazing omelets, getting some much needed winter gear at REI, selling two gold coins i inherited for a good deal of money, picking up some cables to hook up our computers to the TV and stereo system, listening to loud music, drinking beer, and cooking salmon. It was a good day. Smash came down to stay the night friday but naturally my mother made sure we slept in separate beds. On Saturday we got an early start down to Julian and Temecula (san diego county) to have lunch and do some wine tasting. Another highlight; wine tasting, with my parents and me and smash – parents paid, we went to three wineries and got a few bottles of wine while we worked up a slight buzz. Dinner was at my favorite mexican restaurant called Tortilla Flats – complete with pomegranate margarita. Dad and I cooked most dinners. We made pork ribs, salmon, and pot roast (which was cooked in a pressure cooker and downright divine). Smash’s pumpkin cheesecake was a big hit with dad as well; i believe the quote was, “you better stay with her for a long time so i can get more of that cheesecake.” It was good to see my mom – she is getting some spunk back; she walks several miles a day and mainly eats a fruit and vegetable diet. She still has tons of doctors appointments and continuing medical issues but things are slowing down a bit. She just wants it to be all over and get the hell out of there. Both my parents are seriously considering moving somewhere like Alaska and starting a bed and breakfast when they retire in the next few years. Which I like.
I have been listening to fall be kind (thanks brad), real estate, the olivia tremor control, circulatory system, and bear in heaven. Only started on them so i can’t say too much but i am loving fall be kind and really getting into olivia tremor control and circulatory system. Plus i got a healthy does of classic rock from the pops.

Evrybody get a sense of ergency
November 22, 2009 · 1 Comment
With these words we start serving lunch at the cock! It is very refreshing to work with our beloved mama, she is a dedicated worker and overall a fantastic human being. I dream of the day when we will own our very own venue/restaurant/coffee shop/bar and will work all together with the sense of relaxation, happiness and love. At the moment life is so that we live from weekend to weekend. This one was a good one. My friend Kalen from Yimmy Yones hung out with us and we hung out with him. We had Kaliene, Kalen, and Kaitlin and other people whose names did not start with the letter K and are therefore not as fun to even bother adding to this post. ☺ We drank bloodies, cooked dinners and dance to the Talking Heads. Cocaine was highly missed. – joke. Mama G misses everyone and wants to come back. I finally bought some art supplies and am intending to paint again, its been too long. The parade pictures look fantastic, I am sad we had to leave and didn’t get to see the show. Cannot wait for another reunion. Must go smoke now, still smokin’! Misses kisses.

It’s snowing in Spokane

Hello friends,
All right, I know some of you have been making fun of this whole “Hot Toddy” house name (which, by the way Kaliene, can be spelled toddy or tottie, but toddy is the more traditional form). It started with the idea that this is, after all, Tyler Owen Tupper’s house (though it’s home to all the Mug Nug family). So T.O.T., which just sort of turned into Hot Toddy, the delicious whiskey beverage. It’s a silly name, yes, but we haven’t come up with anything better.
The point is, last night I made a couple rounds of Hot Toddies because apparently most people have never had one and/or have never heard of them. If you are one of these people, let me assure you that they are DELICIOUs. People started thinking that Hot Toddy’s not such a bad name after all. Take that!
Here is a recipe so you can all try from home:
Ingredients:
Whiskey (preferably Scotch)
Hot water (or hot black tea)
Lemon juice and slices
Honey
Cinnamon stick
Cloves
Add however much whiskey you want to a tall glass (I like to count to 4 or 5 while I pour). Then add the hot water or tea so the glass is almost full. Put in one cinnamon stick and a handful of whole cloves. Squeeze lemon juice into the glass and add a slice of lemon. Stir in a spoonful of honey. And drink!
I know you’ll agree that it’s tasty. However, you may all have a point that it’s not the best house name. So we’d like to enlist your help. What name do you want to use to refer to our house? So that we don’t have to say “Tyler Kelsey Aden Gayda Daugh,” or some shit.
The Cat House? We’re up for suggestions.
yours lovingly,
Lady Daugh

Bakefield’s Bump

Let me first start out this report with a graph of our (the mug nug) blog’s views (popularity) over the past 11.53 months.
Some might say this is a breach of privacy, and for some weird people, their guilty pleasure… the part about seeing the secret graphs that the viewers cannot. So as you can see this blog started out with a bang back in good old Jan. ‘09, and has been slowly headed down hill since, except for that period where that dude lived in a tent. Now this graph brings up some curious questions….right? Anyway people, I know you have interesting things happening in your life and I know we’re all busy, but who doesn’t spend a chunk of time on the interweb each day? I personally blame facebook for the lack of content being produced from this pə-ˈrād plagued blog. Facebook is quick, cheap, and dirty. I don’t just want to read that there is fat people and greasy fast food somewhere, I want to see them, smell, them, and hear them! Yes you can smell things on the internet, it’s tricky but I think the iphone as an app for it. So let this be a reminder to everyone who took that oath back in december of ‘08 in the Mug Nug living room, that said we the people of the mug nug blog, no matter how high (or low) we become, it is our duty to regurgitate some shit up from our daily lives and post it on this blog so Brad will be entertained for a couple of short minutes.
I thought of some random possible blog post ideas to get people started.
1) What the hell is going on in California?
2) Didn’t someone go to the East Coast?
3) Claytone’s next robot he is making out of connecting circuits together that confuse me.
4) Amanda’s Hot Toddy drink she speaks of…
5) Cock Fighting
6) Mama Gabdulhakov
7) Recent Tattoos…
Shnobot Shalom Gospels
9) aliGAYDAs & catz
Ok people, i think you get the idea. In recent news, most of you know but Greg, Ashley and I are heading to Jackson this week to start our winter jobs in restaurants on the mountain, the band put out a cassette that we like and I have been listening to this band called Real Estate and the new Beach House which, both albums give the illusion that it is summer outside which has been confusing, this sentence is confusing. fuck word.
oh check out these babys…
